As the Lead Applicants, Dr Mabrouka Abuhmida and Dr Wendy Booth assume overall project leadership and coordination. With expertise in AI and deep learning techniques, Dr Abuhmida is responsible for supervising the design and implementation of the AI chatbot tool. Dr Wendy Booth supervises the research team, collaborates with external stakeholders, and provides the sociology expertise on the project. Both principal investigators ensure that the project's milestones and objectives are met. The Co-applicants, Dr Biao Zeng and Dr Shakiela Davies, bring their subject matter expertise in sociology, psychology, and clinical psychology, respectively. They contribute to research methodologies, data analysis, and interpretation and assist in developing the AI chatbot tool. The Budget management, resource allocation, and dissemination of project findings through publications and presentations also fall within their responsibilities.

Dr Mabrouka Abuhmida, the course leader of MSc/BSc Artificial Intelligence courses, will lead the project as the principal investigator (PI). Dr Abuhmida is an experienced AI expert, particularly in the medical applications of deep learning techniques, and has a keen interest in the application of AI in mental health. With a computer systems and electronics engineering background, she has worked on several multidisciplinary projects across various fields, such as environmental monitoring, health monitoring, and cyber security, using AI-related technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), and smart innovations to solve complex problems. Dr Abuhmida has supervised numerous PhD and MSc projects on AI, IoT, material properties, and security and has led various private and public domain projects. She has worked with the Welsh government on AI-related topics and secured grants for innovative ideas with local and private companies.
Dr Wendy Booth is a lecturer in Public Service Management and course leader for the Sociology BSc (Hons). She teachers and supervises masters' students studying leadership and health, including managers within the NHS; therefore, this research will be informed by, and will inform, her teaching and research practices, supporting mental health within public services both locally and internationally. In addition, her PhD research explored empathy and social psychology, which is relevant to this research. Dr Booth is in the final stages of a writing a joint paper titled 'The impact of stigma and shame on access to mental health services in conservative communities: A case study of a mental health unit in Saudi Arabia' having developed international academic links. She has conducted social science research on a range of culturally relevant topics, including for the British Council in Algeria; community cohesion in Wales, and ethnocultural empathy in schools.
